In a recent article published in the Daily Mail, on 14 October 2021 it has been reported that an unidentified female smoker in her 80s who shunned the NHS surgery and chemotherapy saw her lung tumour shrink by 75% of original size 'after self-medicating on CBD oil'. It was confirmed that the woman consumed CBD oil two to three times a day after being diagnosed with lung cancer about three years ago.

However, the lady continued to smoke and has completely declined the standard NHS treatment for her case including surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, her tumour shrunk to a quarter of its original size. The doctors that were in charge of the woman's case at the Mid and South Essex NHS, confirmed that her unique case justifies additional and in-depth research into whether the CBD oil derived from cannabis worked as a cancer treatment.

It is a well-known fact that there are over 180 cannabinoids found in the hemp plant, but the most popular is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is the chemical that produces the "high" – and CBD – which is non-psychoactive, these two are the most researched.

Both of these chemicals are known to interact directly with our body's endocannabinoid system, which helps regulate nerve function, our emotion, energy and metabolism, pain and inflammation, sleep and general immune function.

Many experts within the field, claim that cannabinoids can interact with signalling several pathways in cells, including cancer cells. According to many doctors who understand the benefits of consuming CBD, it is 'widely believed' that cannabinoids can provide very unique benefits to people suffering from pain, anxiety and sleeping disorders. In the UK, lung cancer is the second most common cancer and about 15% of people live for five years after they are diagnosed. Sadly, the average survival rate for those who do not get any treatment for such disease is a short 7 months.

At Oxocan, we strongly recommend that people who suffer from any serious health condition, including lung cancer or any other type of cancer, should immediately consult their doctor or healthcare professional when deciding on an appropriate treatment.
