What is an aromatherapy candle?

An aromatherapy candle is a scented candle created around aromatic ingredients, often including essential oils or carefully selected fragrance components. The purpose is primarily sensory. The fragrance becomes part of the atmosphere of a room, whether the scent is fresh and citrus-led, soft and floral, warm and woody or distinctly botanical. Aromatherapy candles can be used as part of many everyday rituals. You might light one while reading, during an evening at home, while getting ready for the day or simply when you want to change the atmosphere of your surroundings.

The term "aromatherapy candle" can cover a broad range of formulations, so it is worth looking at the ingredients rather than assuming that every product labelled aromatherapy is made in the same way. At Oxocan, fragrance is central to our candle collection. We select individual fragrance notes to create candles with distinct personalities rather than producing one generic scent across the range.

What is a CBD candle?

A CBD candle is a candle that contains cannabidiol, commonly known as CBD, as part of its formulation. CBD is one of the naturally occurring compounds found in the hemp plant. In a CBD-infused candle, it is incorporated into the candle alongside ingredients such as wax and fragrance.

A CBD candle remains a home-fragrance product. The experience is centred around the candle itself: its fragrance, appearance, warmth and the ritual of lighting it. This is different from a CBD oil, which is formulated as a separate type of CBD product and has a different intended use. The amount of CBD can also vary between candles. For that reason, it is useful to check the individual product information rather than assuming that every CBD candle contains the same amount.

What makes a CBD-infused candle different?

The defining difference is simply the inclusion of CBD in the formulation. A conventional scented or aromatherapy candle may contain wax, a wick and fragrance ingredients. A CBD-infused candle includes CBD as an additional component.

That does not mean that every CBD candle smells or feels the same. The fragrance remains an important part of the product, and different combinations of essential oils and aromatic ingredients can create completely different experiences. This is why we believe it is useful to consider the whole formulation rather than choosing a candle based solely on whether it contains CBD.

  Revitalise takes a brighter approach to fragrance.It opens with sparkling mandarin and bergamot before unfolding into softer notes of lavender and chamomile. The result is a fresher citrus and botanical combination with a lighter character.Like Tranquillity, Revitalise contains 100mg of CBD per 150g candle and is hand-poured in the UK using a natural wax blend and carefully selected essential oils.If you tend to prefer citrus notes and brighter fragrance profiles, Revitalise offers a natural place to start.
  
  

• Harmony: CBD-free

  Harmony offers something different.Unlike Tranquillity and Revitalise, Harmony contains no CBD. It is a natural scented candle created for those who simply want a beautifully considered fragrance ritual without CBD as part of the formulation.This makes Harmony an important part of the Oxocan collection. You do not need to choose a CBD-infused candle to enjoy the fragrance, warmth and atmosphere of an Oxocan candle.Harmony gives you another way into the collection, with the focus placed entirely on the scented candle experience.
  

CBD candle or CBD-free candle: which is right for you?

There is no need to make the decision complicated.

If you are specifically looking for a candle containing CBD, Tranquillity and Revitalise are the two options in the Oxocan collection. Both contain 100mg of CBD per 150g candle, but their fragrances are quite different.

Choose Tranquillity if you are drawn towards English lavender, chamomile and a more botanical combination of fragrance notes.

Choose Revitalise if you prefer sparkling mandarin and bergamot alongside softer lavender and chamomile.

If you are more interested in fragrance and atmosphere without CBD, Harmony provides a CBD-free alternative.

The most important consideration is ultimately the fragrance you enjoy. A candle is something you live with in your space, so choosing a scent that genuinely appeals to you matters more than following a particular trend.

What to look for when choosing a scented candle

Whether you are looking for a CBD candle, aromatherapy candle or natural scented candle, there are several practical details worth considering.

• Fragrance:

  Start with the scent.Look at the individual fragrance notes rather than relying only on the name of the candle. Citrus notes such as mandarin and bergamot can create a different impression from floral and botanical ingredients such as lavender, chamomile and geranium.If possible, think about the fragrances you already enjoy in your home, perfumes or personal-care products. How to care for your Oxocan candle

Good candle care helps you get the most from the candle and its fragrance.

Trim the wick to approximately 5mm before each use. On the first burn, allow the wax to melt evenly across the surface. Do not burn the candle for longer than four hours at a time.

Always place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface and never leave a burning candle unattended.

Keep candles away from children, pets and flammable materials.
